1st Alpine Winter Conference on Medicinal and Synthetic Chemistry

Travelling by car

In Austria there is a road tax sticker called "Vignette" which is obligatory in order to drive on motorways and on the S16. It can be purchased at the border, at gas stations and in many local shops "Trafik". There are 3 types of sticker: 10-Days, 2-Months, 1-Year. Some mountain passes may be closed in winter. Passes normally open all year round, but may close temporarily in the event of heavy snowfall. Sometime snow chains are necessary and it is imperative that you have adequate snow equipment. The speed limit is 130 km/h on motorways, 100 km/h on main roads and 50 km/h in town. The alcohol limit is 0.5 pro mille. Seat belts are obligatory in the front and back of the vehicle.
